Personal background
Born and raised in Roseburg, OR., 36 years old, Network Administration/System Analyst. Spent 5.5 years in NAVY seeing world and kicking Saddam's butt in Desert Storm. Hobbies: reading (a must for job), basically anything to do with computers, i.e. assembly, modification, new toys, games. I know, get a life. I do like quads on the dunes in the summer and snowmobiles at Diamond and Crater lakes in the winter. My father claims to have seen a "UFO" back in the sixties while on the state highway crew. Didn't land, but they may have been on vacation and were just sight seeing. Just think if they are monitoring our communications, i.e. tv. What would they think of the X-files or Independence Day?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I became interested in the SETI@home when my brother checked it out around March 2001. I had seen the large Arecibo dish in lots of stuff and had wondered what it was. Go x-files!

I run the SETI@home program to help find ETI. Also, I think that it is VERY cool that there are soo many people around the world cooperating to achieve this. If only we could band together like this over other important issues.

As for ETI, I have no doubts that there has been/will be other life forms in existence. Now, are there currently any intelligent species out there. Maybe. I would be surprised if mankind will last another century or two, let alone long enough to make any meaningful steps toward planetary colinization. Which, IMHO, will be the only way to ensure our race will survive the next deep impact on earth. If we actually contact a non-violent ETI, I would hope that we could benefit each other in a multitude of ways. Who knows what kind of needs/interests a ETI may have. I think don't know if we should transmit our signals on purpose. If we do, just hope it isn't taken as a challenge/threat.
