Personal background

Ok... I'm a Geordie. Born and raised in the heart of Geordieland (that's South Shields in the North East of England). After living in most parts of the UK, I now reside in Sydney, Australia.

I'm 32 years of age, married (to an Ozzie sheila) with twin daughters.

I'm a business systems analyst working for an actuarial software house in Bondi Junction.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Do I believe in ET life? Statistically, I'd say it was inevitable. We've found something like 100 planets in other systems so far, and we've only just started looking.

I think ET will find us before we notice him/her/it. Unless we pick up a passive signal, which will answer the question "Are we alone", but create a whole raft of others.
I run SETI because I believe in pushing the frontiers back and unmasking the universe's secrets. If we stop searching for answers, we stop being human.

I also believe in using resources when possible, and not wasting them (i.e. CPU time, human time).
