Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely believe that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, but do not know if it is possible to contact it. There are so many variables that must be exactly right for this to occur. That said - We'll never know if it's possible unless we try. I enjoy being part of the team contributing to that potential discovery.

I don't believe there is an inherent danger in announcing our existence to another civilization. I believe they would be as excited discovering our existence as we would be discovering theirs. The separation of space would inhibit the "turf-wars", or the ability to "lust" for another's natural resources. Then again, if their civilization has the same history as ours, we would find something to battle over.

I think it would be truly fascinating to learn of another civilizations technology to see if it in any way resembles the discoveries we have made, or if they have arrived at the same solutions through different means.

It fascinated me that we are using a signal from Pioneer 1, launched in the early 70's, to test the antennae. I'm surprised the signal is still being transmitted - go NASA.
