Profile: The Dubliner

Personal background
Hi, i am 38 yrs old and from Dublin, Ireland but have been living in Birmingham, UK for almost 10 yrs. I have two dauthers and became a grandad for the first time last year. My hobbies are computers, building pc's, surfing the net and watching sci-fi movies ie: Contact, Star Trek (movies & tv series, the x-files etc. I have always been interested in the stars and space travel and only recently found out about seti@home projects from a PC mag. I firmly beleive that we are not alone and find it very rewarding to be allowed to take part in the search for life beyond our little planet. I hope to continue taking part in the seti@home progrm as long as my computer keeps running.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that there is intelligent life beyond our solar system and i am convinced that it is only a matter of time before we or they make "First Contact". Extraterrestrial life (if frendly) could give us a new, clean and reuseable form of power, they could olso point us in the right dircection as to how to bulid a space craft which could travel at the "Speed-of -Light" which would allow us to explore beyond our universe. We must transmit a beacon for Extraterrestrials to find us but we need to be careful and not pin-point our location until we are sure that they are frendly. I think the idea behind the Seti@home project is fantastic. It makes perfect business sense as well as a great way of reaching more people and involving in them in something which is so important to the people of this world.
