Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To think the earth is the only place in the vastness of space that holds intelligent life (even thats still under debate)would be pretty arrogant don't you think. Then again were talking about humans:) I think we will discover it in time. But I think looking for something and not knowing what it is can be dangerous depending on what you find so I'm not so sure we should advertise where we are. not all of the human race would welcome another species with open arms why should they do the same.(my opinion comes from my fellow humans examples ) And if we find a species similar to our own they might be a little to close. So find em yes let em know we found em? not right away. If the doors open and you don't know who's in the house you don't shout here I am! lol. If you have to call and find out call from the other side of town (like deep space)it's safer in the long run.
I think deep space exploration is the only real answer to question. we can only do so much from home sometime you have to get in the car to find the dog!
I think the need to know and the willingness to find out is built into all humans but not everybody has a means to fullfill their desire. But with seti@home any of us can try even if it's only a small part.
