I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists, otherwise the whole universe would be a waste just for humans living on Earth. I don't know when and how we will discover them. May be they have already discovered us, but since we are so busy trying to annihilate ourselves, they don't find us worthy of communicating with.
I think if anybody out there is scientifically progressed enough to be able to contact other life forms, they should find us without us sending them a beacon. The inherent danger of sending a beacon would be to attract the attention of the alien races who haven't got to the point to forget about the taking advantage of other races' resources (sort of like what we do on Earth!).
