Personal background
Born in 1965 and raised in the USA, I have lived here all of my life. I met my wife Anne in 1996 and we were married shortly there after. I am a Security Agent and own a small business. One of my main past times is as a Volunteer Auxiliary Police Officer in my hometown. I also volunteer my time on the Board of Directors of a non-profit organization that operates a boy's camp for needy children in New York State. When I am not volunteering my time I enjoy country dancing (great exercise), horseback riding, hiking, fishing, camping and growing vegetables in my garden. True Friendships and good honest relationships are very important, but my family always comes first.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have been interested in SETI for a long time and joined SETI@home in 1999 after stumbling on their website. We are living on great little planet, orbiting a beautiful star we call our sun that is located in a galaxy much like other galaxies. There are billions of other galaxies in the universe and it is almost inconceivable to think that we are the only intelligent life. It is not that likely that we will ever find ET in my lifetime, but as long as there is a possibility it is worth trying. It is even less likely that there would be any danger involved with contacting another intelligence in the universe, because of the distance between our worlds. We should not fear what may happen, but take a step forward toward finding out what could happen. We should transmit the signals into space for ET to receive and look forward to the day we receive a reply, and all the reasons we have for contacting ET should apply toward helping them find us. I suggest that we send them simple information that includes knowledge about our civilization and our planet. I now run SETI@home continuously 24/7 and feel it is a great way to utilize the system resources while our PCs are not in use. I wish the best of luck to the SETI@home team and all those involved with the project.
