Personal background
I have always been facinated by the prospect of life on other worlds and can not fathom a universe with only one planet that supports intellegent life. I believe that in 1967, while in Viet Nam, I saw what may have been a UFO very high in the night sky. A single dot of light, like a satelite crossing the heavens was going from east to west, the opposite of most flight tragectories. Then it stopped, reversed itself for about 1 minute, reversed again and then made a 90 degree turn at what appeared to be very high speed. The other man watching with me just stared into the night sky as I was doing and neither believed what we had just witnessed. As for my occupation, I am a salesman, my hobbies include raising roses and working on my genealogy. It drives my wife nuts, but I love science fiction movies and anything to do with the heavens.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I do believe life exist elsewhere in the universe. As to when we will discover this, I can only hope in my life time, however, just maybe they don't want to be discovered by a race of humanoids that attempt to destroy their own planet. Can we be trusted not to exploit theirs also. As to benefits, we can only hope that we could learn from them and they from us. As for dangers, I think that depends on our attitude when such a discovery occurs. If we come in with weapons drawn, like scared children, we just might find ourselves in deep trouble, especially if they come here first, because then it would be obvious that they would have superior technology. My favorite movie is "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Could that happen?

2. Yes, we should transmit a beacon into the heavens, but which direction? If in all directions, are we not already doing that with our television and radio signals that are transmitted to satelites daily?

3. I run SETI because I believe in the project and have every hope that together we may find ET. As for my views, I wish NASA and the US Government would release more funds for SETI. No suggestions at this time!
