Personal background
Hello, I'm from Iceland, the capital, Reykjavík. I'm 14, turning 15 this year (2003) and belive it or not, I'm unemployed and single!
Hmm, the main hobby must be computers... then there is just hanging out with my friends, and other stuff.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm just gonna answer those questions:
1. I'm not sure but I think it will be us that will be discovered by some hyper-technology-super-aliens... err... advanced aliens.
They would pro'ly help us with using our energy, growing food better (or maybe we will help them grow food). They main danger is ofcourse that we will be killed and those aliens will take over the planet. Another danger is that those very frienly aliens are carrying some very deadly bacteria that would kill all lifeform on Earth.
2. Of course! There should be just some strong beep, beep, with some nice rythma in it, just so 'they' will know that it's not a supernova and to catch their attencion. Then on another frequency there would be something very simple, that eveybody understands (like beep *silence* beep beep *silence* beep beep beep *silence* beep beep beep beep *silence* beep beep beep beep beep *silence* beep beep beep beep beep beep... all the way up to Ten and then start over. Now they should be interested enough and check out those radio and TV transmissions, hopefully.
3. Yes, i do. This is a great project!! (what's there else to say?)
I don't know how you analyze this data and i don't know nothing about how radio works but here's my suggestion: Take the strongest signals you get... that stand out on the scale and convert them to 'beeps' or some short sound. Or check one special signal and listen to it, (hmm, i would need to talk about this to explain). Like for example there is this signal, called 4 and it goes through the 500mhz and up to 30000mhz pretty fast, when you would analyze 4 it would make this 'beeep' sound while doing this. (or do our radios work like this?).
