Personal background
I've had a lifelong interest in science and science fiction, and I work with Linux all day long.

When I am not working or sleeping I am probably hiking or entertaining cats.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It seems likely to me that there is more life out there, and it would probably be better if we knew about them before they showed up here. I am somewhat less optimistic than others about the possibility of peaceful contact; that certainly is not how exploration worked out for human groups at differing technological levels.

I still think discovering an alien civilization would be the most exciting development of my lifetime, and I hope I live to see it happen.
