Personal background
I live in Torrington Connecticut. I work as a Senior Technical Support Engineer. The company I work for manufacturers the high production systems for making CD's and DVD's. We also make a machine for the MRAM technology.
I am 51 years old and have been an avid follower of the Space Program from the first Mercury Mission through today.
I travel extensively for work and have found many people interested in this project and the technology that it uses.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life? I believe that it has to exist is some form or other. We cannot be the only ones. How will we discover or be discovered? There are so many this could happen with known or unknown technology that it is hard to even guess. I believe that this project is a good start.
I believe that we should do something to try to let other intelligences know we are here, this could be in the form of a radio beacon or many other forms, some of which would only be feasible from someplace like the International Space Station, i.e., some type of pulsed particle beam, etc.
I am running SETI@home for a number of reasons, the possibility of actual contact but also to further the technology and its uses in other fields of science. Can you imagine if this technology was used for cancer research?, materials sciences?, weather modeling?, eathquake and volcano predictions? The uses of this is virtually unlimited as so many new forms of technolgy are that we cannot even foresee some of the most helpful uses today.
