Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI is a worthwhile project. Growing up in the "baby boomer" era science has made astounding advancements with the help of technology. There is the possibility of life on other planets that have evolved to our level and beyond. Honestly I believe that the ET will let us know they are "out there" when they feel the time is right. There however is that "needle in the haystack" that we discover them 1st. There is always a danger when "discovering" something new, we can play the 'what if' game all we want, but the 'what ifs' never happen the way they are planned.

We have already launched spacecraft with our locations, info on it. Transmitting a beacon I don't view as necessary until we can at least say that there is a distinct possibility that 'someone' will recieve it. The information in the beacon should be something mathmatical that we feel would be universal...remember what we think is harmless may not be percieved that way.

I run SETI@home to help, plus wouldn't it be interesting to see the results of your efforts? The project obviously makes more sense. After all having one computer do all of the analyzing would be slow, this way it harnesses power that funding wouldn't have available. Since my computer runs idle several hours in a day, why not put it to work.

Frankly I wish SETI@home made information and results a little easier. I would like to see a way they could explain it in simple layman terms. And make the results more readily available.
