Personal background
I'm currently a Chemistry graduate student at the University of New Hampshire. I am formerly a citizen of Socorro, where I studied chemistry at New Mexico Tech.

To a lot of people, that's pertty alien in itself. To that end, I feel I'm helping in the search for myself.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti at home to
A)Find ET
B)Further Science
C)Justify not turning off the computer when I leave.
D)To prove to my brother that I can muster more computer power than him.

I'm not sure we'll ever find any sign of intelligent life else where, and if so, I'm not sure if they would ever want to try and hold a conversation with us. If they were either wiser or more intelligent than us, and had been watching our planets EM noise, they would certainly know what a trash hole this place is becoming, and how reticent people are to take care of the planet and each other. If I were an alien race, I'd avoid the shaved monkey beings in the Milky Way galaxy altogether.... either that or send a vast invasion force to take their oil.

On the other hand, we may discover a race that has trashed their own planet worse than we have done to ours and scare ourselves so much that we change our ways... then we'll avoid the hairy squid beings in the Thuan-Gunn system... either that or send them AOL CDs.
