Personal background
I am a 45 y/o SWM living in Gresham (a suburb of Portland) Oregon USA. I love
to fish but I'm not fond of cold, wet weather. Since it's raining out right now
and only 40 degrees F, I figger I'll do a bit of extraterrestrial fishin from
the warmth of my La-Z-Boy. What the hey! I'll just cast out my DSL line, tie it
onto my big toe and wait for something to tug on it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Certainly, life must exist someplace other than Earth. Our technological
abilities may never let us come into direct contact with any however. I mean,
it probably happens everyday, we probably just don't have the ability to see it,
or hear it, or even understand it. We humans cannot even communicate with the
other species on our own planet so it would be very egotistical to think that
we could communicate with a lifeform from some other planet. And if there is a
lifeform out there somewhere that is more advanced than we are, then they would
most likely be interested only in colonizing or conquering us for their own
purposes. After all, isn't that what humans always do when they come into
contact with new lands or new peoples?
