Personal background
I´m a webdesigner now but my first profession was chemist with a little touch of physics. I live in the west of germany in a small town of juelich which is famous for nothing. Maybe you´ve heard about the big (more than 4000 exmployees) research facility (KFA Juelich) if you´re part of the scientific community. I did my diploma work in physical chemistry there. Subject was a tricky method of measuring trace gases (radicals) in the air.
Some years ago i decided to make my hobby a profession and i´m very happy working in my job.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
ad 1.
Sure there must be extraterrestrial life. The chances of discovering it are pretty small as you know. At least if Albert Einstein wasn´t wrong with his ideas about light speed. I know that Kirk ans Spock ignore this - but this is SF.

Of course we should transmit a message. Could be a problem what exactly to send. It´s almost impossible to imagine in wahat form the extraterr.-life exists. We could have to change our criteria of life...

I want to be world famous and rich because i was the one that discovered extraterrestiral life with his pc. that was a joke... i believe that is is more necessary than ever to have a galactical point of view. and setiathome is a little contribution to that attitude.
