Personal background
I am 17 years old from Massapequa, New York in the USA. I believe there is tons of intelligent life out there that are waiting to be found. I also believe we should stop these stupid wars on Earth and advance our space exploration and colonization. There is a whole universe that can help answer our quesitons and we are still on this one planet. I believe more money into space programs can help us explore space quicker and find ET faster. Think of the knowledge we could gain from another civilization with another view of the universe. Indeed Earth is a great planet and it will always be known as "Mother Earth" for caring for humanity for millenia, but there are other planets that are waiting for humans. Man kind shoould devote itself to space no fighting a war in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, North or South America. War on Earth is just setting us backwards. Space is our future. I say we continue to explore the galaxy, the universe, move to colonize other planets, and find those alien civilizations that ARE out there. Religions nor politics should hold us, those who have the desire, the determination, and the spirit, from reaching our goal.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes extraterrestrial life exists in many forms. I belive humans will not discover it until at least 2050. I say this because we are so narrowminded, at least some of us. Most people want money, and power. Politics are holding mankind down from the benefits of space. We could learn so much knowledge from another civilization. Think of the wealth of knowledge they might hold, as well as their view on the universe. Although I do not put away the image of a hostile race and I'm sure they exist. The discovery of one of them could lead to war. And if we find them too soon it could mean the end of mankind.
Human should transmit a beacon for others to find. We should send information on how to contact us. Information on the human culture. We should also give information on our histroy, good parts and bad parts. I run SETI@Home because I want to help find ET. I believe a lot in this cause. I feel it is a great challenge with great rewards. Since I doubt I will live to go into space at a time when its as normal and common to drive a car, I feel this is the best I can do for mankind. I can't be the astronaugt, but I will be the astronomer that helps.
