Personal background
Yo. I am a student fromBainbridge Island in the 11th grade. I spend most of my time playing various sorts of games and reading, mostly philosophy. I do this as research for my LD debate cases, though I refuse to conceed that CX is inferior to LD. For those of you not understanding that last sentence, I also enjoy soccer and biking.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life most certainly exists, even if it is only microbial organisms. However, I have difficulty accepting that in the wide expanse of our galaxy there are no other highly developed species. I cannot speculate as to the time it will take us to discover this life, but I certainly hope that it will be soon, perhaps in my lifetime. When we do find it, I am confident that we can reach a peaceful understanding and engage in a cultural exchange that will better both our societies. The knowledge that we will gain, and that we are not alone, will bring us together as a planet, and mankind will become more prosperous then ever before. For these reasons, we should activly seek out this life, both through sifting through what signals coming our way, and by sending messages of our own. I run SETI@home to aid in the effort to find our fellow sentient races. After all, if everyone with a computer and internet connection just used their computer for SETI, imagine how much power that would amass.
