If extra terrestrial life does exist then it may be of advantage to us. The global society within which we live has gained so much through people from different regions of the worlds and their cultures.
humans should transmit a beacon as a trial but it's hard to see whether the beacon is being sent the right way
seti at home is an interesting idea, getting so many computers to work together taking advantage of Vinton Cerf's networks of networks.
