Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1a.) Yes I do believe that there is extraterrestial life out there. It is almost egocentric and small-minded in a way to think that there isn't.
1b.) I think, that when we finally are able to get along with each other, that ET's will want to make contact. We can't even keep from killing our own kind, let alone beings from other worlds. They will contact us, when they deem us ready.
1c.) Benefits: New technology, new cures for disease, new ways to communicate. The belief that we are not alone being changed.
Dangers: Contact with agressive beings, being enslaved, or killed off. Beings bringing diseases that our bodies can't fight off.

2a.) Yes, I think so, if for no other reason than to show them that we have the technology to communicate, which also means we have technology to at least make some attempt to protect ourselves. There is a feeling out there that the ET's that we will make contact with will be friendly, and that might not be the case.
2b.) We should send information on what kind of world we inhabit, the atmosphere, the flora and fauna, and what kind of intelligent life is here. Also information on the cultures, religions and a brief history of the world. I do not, however, believe we should send anything about our technology.

3a.) I like the idea that I can, in some small way, have a hand in looking for ET's. The more people who have a hand in helping this endeavor, the faster we can make contact.
3b.) So far, I have no suggestions as to how you can improve SETI@home. Once I learn more about the project and understand it, I may have some. Thank you for the chance to have a hand in this.
