Profile: James Thorne

Personal background
I live and work in London, England. I am a unix system administrator and network engineer for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ('Kew Gardens'), although I originally read geology to master's level at the University of Durham, England. I enjoy mountaineering and speleology.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
With a backgound in geology (particularly in evolution) I find it unlikely that Earth is the only planet which supports intelligent life. I will use a cliché here and say that there is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from an ET civilisation, but that we should learn from the mistakes of past explorers of the Earth and treat different civilistaions and beliefs with respect and tolerance.
