Profile: Myke

Personal background
25 Years old and living in Scarborough, UK. I'm a Marine BioChemist at the MAFF Research Station here. My personal network consists of four terminals and a server which run 24 hours a day so I should be able to contribute a fair few CPU hours. Hadnt used SETI@Home for a good few months because I had been too tied up with work to sort my network out. Glad SETI emailed me to remind me !!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I beleieve that with the constants and variables in the universe it is statistically impossible for there NOT to be other life in the universe. The question is however, is it Sentient life? I think that our only hope of finding Life is to focus on Sentient life and wait for them to signal us.

Humans should be transmitting a beacon of some description for exactly the same purpose. If there is sentient life out there looking for us, then how are we expecting to be found. The sooner the signal leaves us, the sooner it would be on its way. It may take Centuries to reach its destination, so why wait another ten/fifteen years before starting the journey.

I run SETI@Home in the hope that my contribution will help SETI not neccesarily find a signal, but rule out areas of no signal. THe more areas ruled out, the more we can concentrate on those with a greater potential.
