I'm a female geek and a baby boomer. I've been working in computers since 1974 on everything from IBM mainframes to a TI ASC (a Cray-sized) scientific computer. I got involved in compilers and assemblers on early microprocessors (TMS1000 & TMS9900). I'm a member of the North TX PC Users Group, Toastmasters, and numerous Genealogical and Historical societies. At my 'day' work I'm an analyst on an Enterprise wide Supply Chain system for a semiconductor company. In the evenings I play on my Linux system at home and teach other how to use their PC to do their genealogy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My son got me involved in SETI and now every system at the house is working. SETI set the standard for cluster computing. I just wish I could convince my Enterprise Application vendors to re-write their software to be handled in the same way! It would be a much more efficient way to use the servers that we have that have to crunch on the Supply Chain and other business models that we use!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
