Personal background
I live in Reston, VA and I'm a PeopleSoft consultant, formerly of one of the Big 5 consulting firms (what a rip off). Been living here just 8 months and its way too expensive here. Townhomes are $400,000 and they are super small. Fast talking salesmen in new Mercedes somehow make them sell, though.

I'm been into photography for years and web programming (things like Perl, Python and java).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've known about SETI for years now and have finally joined in. I guess I've always wondered if we know what to look for in the signals that are under analysis. The identifying signals maybe so subtle as to not be apparent in the data units that are sent to users. In other words, we may be looking at data blocks that are too small. I mean, who decided upon the data unit size. That must have been a very difficult decision. In fact, I would like more info on the seti-at-home site on signal analysis. You now have all the computer power you need, lets ensure that the analysis is equal to the task. In other words, if you've never found what it is that you're looking for, how would you know what you're looking for? (i.e., You don't know what you don't know!)

I'm a linux and freebsd user and have read about the boycott of SETI at HOME. It apparently hasn't caught on much in the open source community, but I don't think its entirely without merit.
