Hi. I'm Wmgoat. It's a handle that I got years ago from friends while we were mountain climbing. I just went straight up the face, without stopping. But I sure am not able to do that now.
SETI@Home is exciting to me, because as a teacher of CIS, I know that there are billions of free computer cycles available to foundations such as this, just waiting to be used. Why not put them to good use?

As far as the possibility of ET existing, I can only say that it would be naive of me to think that earth animals/humans are the only creatures placed in the Universe. A risk does exist, and dealing with others with some sort of universal language is paramount to successful comminications. I believe that this language will be Mathematics, as all creatures can understand quantities of things, and mathematical concepts.
Should we look for others? Absolutely!
And why do I subscribe to SETI? Becuase I have 5 systems at home (1 Linux, 1 Solaris Unix, 3 Windows of various kinds and speeds), all idle most of the time. Why not take advantage of the HW thats already existing and do something with all that idle time? |
