Profile: Eager Beaver

Personal background
Moien,

My name is Jean, 34 m, from Luxembourg. I've been a Seti contributor since the beginning running the Seti client on an 80MHz PowerMac 8100. Recently I have upgraded to a 1.8 GHz Pentium IV which obviously processes these data packets much faster.

And, I am a FileMaker Pro specialist, also providing software localisation in French, German and English. If you have any thoughts to share, comments or suggestions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Will we discover life outside our planet? I don't think so. If you consider that the universe is infinite, you might think it is possible, yet there are a number of factors which prohibit us to communicate with these aliens.

Do they speak English (or Luxembourgish for that matter)?
Do they speak at all?
Do they have radio?
How many light years are they away?
Will we have become extinct by the time their signal reaches them?

To put all these factors into a mathematical equation, we need the following ingredients:
- the speed of light
- the amount of time since he have discovered radio waves in relation to the amount of time the human species exists
- the amount of time that remains before we become extinct (Oh, come on, there's hope)
- the probability that an alien life form uses radio waves

Why do I run SETI? I just want to be part of the community of power users. And if we wouldn't try to find life outside of earth, we would never know if it existed.

Alas, keep on processing
