Profile: weQqul

Personal background
My name is weQqul. This is klingon for Shama, which is my real name. I am a 45 year old female with four chidren. Only one is still at home. I speak several different native languages and dialects, although klingon, being a conlang, is a first for me. I find it to be a totally fascinating language. I have only been studying it for around 4 months and I have already learned quite a bit. My goal is to become completely fluent within one year. Some people ask me why I would want to learn a language created for a television show. Because I can! lol I love the sound of it.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists?
I believe that life exists elsewhere. Like they said in the movie contact, "It would be an awful waste of space if it didn't."
2. When will we discover this?
No one knows, although I sure hope it is within my lifetime!
3. How will we discover it?
Good question. I believe that we might not currently have the technology necessary to do this. They may not want to be found. We are a very violent species, after all. If in fact this is the case, how unfortunate for us.
4.What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
I believe the benefits would far outweigh the dangers of contact. We are currently using up our natural resources at an alarming rate and we need to find an alternative souce of energy if we are to survive as a species. There are many reasons we could benefit from contact. Too many to list here.
5. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?
We are transmitting a beacon, whether we want to or not with our radio transmissions and television, etc.
6. Why do you run SETI@home?
To help in the search.
7. What are your views about the project?
I hope it works!
8. Any suggestions?
Don't give up!
