Personal background
Im a 30 year old, single male from Sheffield, South Yorkshire in the UK. I am a freelance writer, playtester and IT technician (albeit currently unemployed). My hobbies are mostly music, cinema, reading, RPG's and my computer. I adore animals especially my pet dog.

I have looked to the stars and wondered from a young age and its something a curiosity that has stayed with me to adulthood. I guess I've just always known that no matter what the future of Mankind lies out there not here on Earth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Hmm interesting questions, I would give my answers as follows.

1. Simple answer.. Yes. Long Answer, the way I see it is the sheer scope of the universe about us, the number of worlds and galaxies out there would be statistically if nothing else unliekly that we are alone. Where the potential for life to occur exists in one places the possibility of it occuring elsewhere must also exist.
As for when and how we will discover them, well who is to say we need to be the ones to do the discovering :) Maybe they already know were here and are just waiting for us to reach the maturity as a species to approach us. Or maybe we will be the discoverers who knows, but its the not knowing how it will happen or when that makes it such an exciting proposition in the first place. The question on the discovery of extraterrestrial life is like an Christmas Eve, full of anticipation and excitement and clock watching until the big day finally arrives with whatever surprises and revelations it may bring.
What are the Possible benefits and Dangers.. well benefits I would like to think would be technological, culturual, societal, historical.. even just knowing that we arent alone. My biggest hope for the discovery of life is that it will finally stop mankind from looking inwards and encourage them to look outwards.. maybe then we can end the racial tensions, cultural divides and insular thinking of countries and start to think of ourselves just as a species, one nation, undivisible, uniting us in a way weve never been before. disadvantages..well these are aliens were talking about they may be just that, not thinking as we do with extremely different beliefs and values due to a vastly different special evolution and history. They may not even be friendly. then there are possible medical complications should the species ever meet such as with the Missionaries bringing diseas to the Amazon tribes.. who knows what damage such a meeeting could do to either species... and all this is if the ET's are even humanoid and not the
