Personal background
I've always been interested in science, and the study of the universe and what it contains has always been fascinating to me. There's so much out there to discover and explore, yet mankind has still only travelled a miniscule portion of it. As soon as I heard about Seti@Home, I signed right up!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that life exists somewhere else in the universe. I don't necessarily think that it will be little green men flying around in saucers, but the notion that we are the only race of intelligent beings in this universe is just too vain, and (in my opinion) impossible, given the size of the universe compared to the size of Earth. I doubt we will ever find anything in my lifetime, but by no means should we ever stop looking!

I wouldn't have a problem with a transmission, however if there are other races or beings out there, there is the possibility of them being hostile towards humans. I subscribe to the notion that to travel the universe, some level of intelligence (as a race) is necessary. Intelligence leads to logic and reasoning, and (usually) logic and reasoning lead to peacefulness and discovery. Granted that is not always the case, but I believe that it would be a good notion to assume in most cases. As far as the information that we should send, I think it should be mathematics-based (yes I've seen Contact, but that has nothing to do with this answer) because even though another species would probably not speak any Earth language (I won't be culturally biased and say 'English' here), an intelligent race would more-than-likely understand the basic principles of physics and mathematics which are present in our part of the universe. That type of a message would also show that we are an intelligent species, and might prevent another race from wiping us off the map due to being 'too primitive'. (And yes, I've seen Star Trek: First Contact too!)

I run Seti@Home because 1) Its free, 2)I have a lot of idle CPU cycles that I waste and am glad to support a cause that I believe in, and 3) it gets me all the chicks! (Ok, they're physics groupies, but hey... why complain?)
