Personal background
As of March 2003, I am a Community College student in Middletown, NY (although I was born and raised in Queens for the early part of my life.) During high school, my goal was to go to NYU or Purchase to study filmmaking, but I was rejected from both of those schools and ended up going to my local community college. However, while taking a Philosophy class, I realized my true dream: To study philosophy and physics. I am reading Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time," and Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "One Hundred Years of Solitude." I recommend them. I am also reading Bertrand Russell's "The History of Western Philosophy." I believe that anything is possible.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I can not honestly say that I believe in extraterrestrial life. However, I can't refute that such life exists. What I can do is participate in the exploration for such life, if it exists. That is why I am participating in the SETI@home project. For me, the project is a noble one: Man's search for life. However, I also believe that listening to the far reaches of space can aid in other ways. I have read how the project works and I am glad I can assist researchers using my computer. Only in the active exploration and study of our universe are we ever to understand the origin and purpose of it.
