Personal background
Well, my real name is Matt, and I'm 17. I'm currently a high school senior at Belleville West in Illinois. I plan to go to college and study film. I greatly enjoy reading about various theories and ideas about physics and astronomy, which lead my way to SETI@home. I also enjoy roleplaying games, online and off, gaming in particular, computers, and movies that actually make you think (*hush* For shame! You can't have people thinking when watching movies can you?) =)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really honestly believe there is intelligent life our there besides ourselves. A biology teacher I once had was talking about the possibility that two humans could be born with the same genetic makeup. It was an infinitly small probability. Yet, he insisted that it will NEVER happen. If there is a probability, I see a chance. If there are a 100 planets in a system, and the probability is that 1 out of 100 planets there is life, then it is possible. Anything is possible, improbable maybe, but not impossible.

I also think that if we have the power to send signals into space to try and find other life, we should. It is our distinct responsibility as sentient beings to find other sentient beings.

I believe SETI@home is a wonderful project, and have recommended it to many of my friends. It is in our nature to seek out others and explore, and SETI@home helps the common man do that. Any small amount of help I can give in seeking out the greatest discovery of mankind, is well worth my time.
