Profile: David Missal

Personal background
I'm a conservative who grew up watching Startrek and Lost in Space as well as experiencing the glory days of Mercury, Gemini & Apollo. Talk about a climax. On hindsight, it seems we've done so little in the 30 plus years since then. What a shame! To make things worse, so few people know or remember to give credit to that great effort we made for so many of the high-tech impacts around us now. From life saving medical testing and imaging and surgical equipment, to jet travel with gps systems and onboard phones, DOD / Military equipment with unbelievable power and abilities, desktop/laptop/palm and super computers, DVDs, Digital Photo and video cameras / sound recorders, cost effective photovoltaics, and the list is seemingly endless. Our early efforts in space may have been for national defense, but the fruits they delivered gave us national honor and they fed new technologies to a largely "developing" world. Now, largely due to the amplifying power of computers and the free flow and exchange of information, we do seem to be in a new industial revolution, only this on is the information revolution. I hope it delivers the sweet fruit of success and not the bitersweet poison provided by the former. Do your best to make sure your government remains fair, balanced, and above all, honest and open. Limit their spending and their taxes. Educate everyone. And pray regularly. Email to me will be read. Due to my limitations I can't promise I will reply.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Absolutely. They will let us find them when they think we are ready. Unknown.

2. A beacon would be of no use. All the signals we generate now already make us glow like a sun in radio wave spectrum.

3. Why not? I like the idea of looking for another planets radio signals. See number 2 above. Good luck. Keep up the good work.
