Personal background
Hi, here's some data about me

Name : Mario Bontinck
Date of birth : 29/04/68

I'm not a scientist, in fact, I'm 33yo and I work in the kitchen of a small restaurant.
It just wasn't possible for me to go to university when I was younger.
But always, every day, I dream about how it must be, to be out there with those few fortunate people who are exploring new frontiers, discovering new things no one has ever known or seen. That's the ultimate dreamjob for me!
Of course every day brings new personal discoveries, every day I can learn something I didn't know the day before, and that keeps life interesting.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I try to keep an open mind about almost anything, if you ask me if I think extraterrestrial life exists, my answer is I don't know. That's the reason we're examinigng all this data for, isn't it ? If we knew for sure they were out there, we wouldn't have to look, and if we were sure we were alone, there would be no point in looking.
I think we simply need to examin this data, even if we find nothing, the work done by SETI is immensly important. The mere fact that this data exists, for me is reason enough to study it.
I realize that the project is huge, the quantity of data is enormous, but what if Editson gave up afther experimenting with a few thousands different lightbolbs ?

Imagine...Newsflash...Today scientist at SETI found what is believed to be a message from a planet some 174 lightyears from earth, containing...(?)

I think this would have an enormous inpact on a personal level, I dont't think the world economy would change much...Too few people would understand or grasp the true meaning. It would certenly create problems for religious people.

We should make a beacon that transmits a very simple pattern for a long time, followd by the complete works of William Shakespear :-)
Serious now, simple mathematical patterns, our binary system, something an intelligent life form might understand.

I just now discovered SETI@home by looking for SETI on the net, (I just connected to the web a month ago) and I feel great because I know that in a very small way, I can contribute to the growth of human knowledge, by running the screensaver. I think it's a beautiful way to use the internet, and a fine example of how we all can work together. It's nice that even a simple help-cook like me can join such a grand project, and even help out a bit!

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion...
I don't know if this is possible, but it would be great if there was a possebility to actually hear a chosen signal from the datablock.
