Personal background
hi everyone. im from croatia, a small country in southeastern europe. certainly not a country UFOs would visit (although we got plenty of grain fields). im 16 yrs old and im a 2nd year student of a computer science / electronics related high school. it was 1998 when i first heard of seti but it's not until recently that i got a computer powerful enough to participate. i do some programming, but i don't spend my whole day sitting in front of the screen (just most of it :)). i like sports, alternative music etc. have i mentioned i'm mad about UFOs?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
i deeply believe extraterrestrial life exists but i'm not certain when will we discover it. i think we'll now about them when they're ready to show themselves. if they are more advanced than us. my fear is that they could be on a low evolution level and we would have to wait thousands of years for them to develop. but the universe is supposingly infinite so there could be an infinite number of life forms and at least one of them could be highly developed
transmitting a beacon could be very useful but we should also consider the risks. what if they are at such a high level that we are not more important than a piece of dust to them. there is really many, too many questions to answer. but i'm for it.we should send it.
why do i run seti@home? why did these people start seti at all and why does so many people participate. i think it's obvious.
