Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe life is not confined by the blankness of space and is very much possible that single cell micro organisms can survive interstellar travel.

On the time scale of millions of years, thousands of tons of matter (soil, rocks, organic matter including bacteria) is dispersed from Earth (also from other planets) to the outer space due to asteroid collissions and a fraction of this matter may endup on many other planets, carrying along the essentials (proteins or hybernated bacteria etc) that can jump start a new life over the new planet.

So, obviously the universe should be teeming with life, on planets wherever it can survive. I think we Earthlings too came from some other planet to thrive here and hope that very soon we shall be listening from an intellegent specie like us.
