Profile: INAS

Personal background
Hello, I'm Stefan, 30 years old and live near the beautiful lake Bodensee in South Germany. My occupation is to solve (nearly) any problem our customers have with their software solution. When there is some time left, my girlfriend and her son require the most of it, a little bit is always left for amateur astronomy and rescue swimming. With my small telescope at the astro-station INAS (http://www.beta-cygni.org) I'm not on the quest for ETI, but the universe is so beautiful even at a quick glance to the night sky!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I think that the probability of being "alone" (we human creatures are not alone on our planet - there are so many forms of life here!) is much less than not being the only living planet. And yes, I think we will be able to discover life somewhere in our solar system or far outside. The larger the distance is, the longer it will take, but we will find out! The risk I see is that our own satellites or spaceships will infect life on Mars, Venus or Jupipter moons!

2. A beacon is not a bad idea... I think we should send out signals of that kind we are looking for ourselves. For example simple numbers: piep...pieppiep...pieppieppiep... and so on, maybe prime numbers.

3. I like the idea of a distributed task - thousands of engines in the world working together to solve a calculation problem. Maybe we could use that power for something more "usefull" but the idea is quite interesting!
