Personal background
Hi I am graduate of Syracuse University. I graduated with my MS in mathematics in December of 2001. Currently I am working on my PhD in mathematics at Ulm University in Germany. I am 22 years old and was born in Western Mass. During my summers I sell bikinis on Mission Beach, San Diego for my brother Jake. And I must say there is no better job in existence than selling bikinis on a popular tourist beach!!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
By the mere probability of the matter, we may assume that alien life forms exist. However we have no measure for the distance the nearest "advanced" life form may be from us. Perhaps the nearest life forms that can transmit signals are so far away by the time there signals reach us our species will be extinct. I would like to believe the contrary and continue with the SETI project. Although I do believe that the dangers run very high on this accord. Consider the only example we have for a "semi-advanced" life-form: humans. We are progressively destroying this planet and potentially making it unlivable. The question becomes: If we find a planet capable of sustaining life, and we have the technology to colonize that planet would we exterminate an unadvanced life form on that planet if needed? I mean if we find that alien-monkeys are the highest form of life on the planet would we take over the planet? I think so. I think we would do just that. This leads me to believe that if another alien species is looking for a planet to colonize they might think of us as "alien-monkeys" and find no problem in exterminating us.
