Profile: John O'Connell

Personal background

I was born in Ireland.

My work involves getting paid for doing some useful stuff.

My hobbies include looking at things and walking to various places.

In general, stuff is good, stuffing is very good and turkey and stuffing the best.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

The fact that so many PCs have been harnessed to this endeavour strikes me as a great achievement in the development of the internet.

Processing signals from throughout the universe, looking for traces of other intelligent species surely sits well with our imagined purpose of the network - to make available to all, the total information at the disposal of our civilisation. That and images of Pamela Anderson, of course.

I like to think that confirmed signals will be found - but even just looking is quite exciting and rewarding.

Congratulations and continued energy to the entire SETI crew.

John.
