Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is inconceivable that the Earth, a miniscule spec of dust in the cosmos, would be the only supporter of life. In at least one of the untold number of galaxies with untold stars orbited by planets -- at least one of these must hold life. These life-supporting planets probably number in the billions, but those with intelligent life undoubtedly are fewer. Of course, barring an ability to exceed the speed of light, any signals we hear from intelligent life will be eons old - the source probably having ceased to exist by the time we detect the signal. Therefore, there is no danger to such a discovery. Any beacon we transmit should be simple and logical so that any intelligence would be able to recognize it as a signal generated by another intelligent specied. I run SETI@home in order to contribute to the worthwhile effort. We feel that you may be able to expand the number of contributors by getting publicity through the news media - go for the networks!
