Personal background
As kids we had walkie talkies - my handle was NASA Control. My friends were Pioneer and ET.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't see any reason to think life doesn't exist elsewhere in the Universe. It would be extreme vanity to think we were that special. Finding life elsewhere might expand human consciousness a bit beyond it's current horizons. However it's all a bit academic - for the foreseeable future this is the only place we can live so we should be more careful with it.

As someone else said 'If we find aliens lets hope they're friendly and not hungry'. :)

Even if this project finds nothing it will have been a useful exercise in distributed computing. If I may misquote Oscar Wilde "It is better to have looked and lost than to never have looked at all".
