Profile: Dan

Personal background
I'm a resident of Las Vegas and work as an electronic technician for JT3. I've always been interested in science, even to the point of wanting to be a chemist when I was in elementary school. I'm also a huge fan of science fiction and have probably read every story by every known science fiction writer over the years. I'm a Whovian, a Trekkie, a Scaper and a Lexxian...referring to the scifi shows that I enjoy (Dr. Who, Star Trek, Farscape and Lexx).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
With the huge number of stars, just in our galaxy alone, I can't see that we're the ONLY sentient life form. It may not be based on carbon but I do feel that sometime we will discover extraterrestrial life within the next 50 to 60 years. If this life is more advanced than us, we could benefit greatly in terms of scientific advances, including disease control, electronics and spacecraft propulsion. The same items could be a danger if used for less than, for lack of a better word, moral purposes. If we were to transmit a beacon, I would suggest a series of prime numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 11 and 13) followed by our galactic coordinates.
