I joined SETI@HOME in the year 2000!
This was long before multi-core processors and massive GPU's. There wasn't much of the amazing PC stuff we have today... back then most work was accomplished by smashing rocks together and smoking various meats.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q1- Why do you run SETI@home?
A1- Because its there.

A2. Its been an amazing progression and very fun to participate/interact
with the community.
