Personal background
I was born on July '71 in Sicily, in the south of Italy. Always been a computer hobbyst since primary school, and when grown up I've been running a FidoNet BBS Node in those glorious days, then switched to Internet when it become publicly available to non-academic world. I'm a Unix nerd, at home and at work, so I own some related hardware and plan to collect all the main unix platforms sooner or later. At present time I'm using a Digital AlphaServer 3305 (533Mhz, 1 Gb RAM) with Tru64 Unix and an Athlon XP 2200 /512Mb with Win2k on this project.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not really interested in extraterrestrial life. I mean, ok, it could probably exist ("It would be an awful waste of space", after all :D ), but what does it change in my every day's life? Almost nothing.. on the other side, I like this kind of distributed computing project, I like to know that CPUs' 24h idle time is being used for something, and, I confess it, I like to see time performances on those WUs :)
