Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The question of 'what is out there' is relevant to our future... more needs to be done to research space (not just SETI)... Asteroid detection etc needs to be improved... currently we would have very little warning if a object was on a collision course with us.

Sending a signal into space has its own dangers... the possiblity of 'hostile' aliens is very real... Our planet is not enlightened enough to handle first contact at this time... That is one reason projects like SETI are important... if a signal IS detected it would permit preparing everyone for a first contact
