Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think ET life does exist. I think ET's will make direct contact with us when we are globally ready. What I mean by globally ready is: War and hate toward each other is eliminated, when people will work as one global unit instead of divided pieces of land that we call countries, and also, our arrogance, that we are the only planet capable of intelligent life, are extinguished in all people. Then, I think we won't find them. They will find us.
The benefits, if ET's are relatively benign , are innumerable. Anything that we can find out about them that would help us, or them, would be enough. The only dangers of finding that we are not alone is that we found the signal too soon for the majority of people to accept the fact that they exist, and the pandemonium that would follow.
