Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Drake's equation is compelling. Even if it's off by a couple of orders of magnitude, it still leaves the possibility of vast numbers of other intelligent civilizations out there. Seti@Home might be quixotic in the sense that actually detecting a signal from one of them is vanishingly remote, but if we actually did it would be the most profound event in human history.
