Profile: Wayne Moore

Personal background
I am Wayne Moore, I have lived mostly in nw MT and have been interested in science, particularly physics, since I was a child of about 12. Astronomy is something I find quite fascinating, although I can find littl time for stargazing anymore, let alone anything more complex. Currently I am in the military, in Ft. Campbell, and am hoping to find the time (and funds) to get a degree in physics, I hope to one day teach it in my home town high school.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe it would be pompous to assume that we are the only living, or even thinking and technologically advanced, beings in the universe. It is so vast that I believe there is most assuredly life out there somewhere. If and when we do manage to find a way to make contact there are several possable outcomes. Everything from the complete destruction of one or both cultures to a mutually beneficial relationship, it is impossable to know at this moment what will happen. I do believe that there will be difficulties, especially if we somehow manage to come face to face with this hypothetical culture. First and most obvious is disease. As has happened with all new meetings of cultures the exchange of ideas will be accompanied by the exchange of sicknesses new to each culture. There will also, undoubtedly, be conflicts. I can not think of any cultural exchange where differences haven't arisen, usualy at the cost of lives, although i am of the belief that all efforts will be exhausted to prevent that in such an important meeting.
