Profile: J Richard Knaggs

Personal background
Born in Ohio and moved from San Diego (Pacific Beach) to Honolulu, HI, I am an avid space buff and can remember being absolutely enthralled by COSMOS when it first aired.
Working first with Boeing for NASA and the Air Force, I have moved on in my career to a global management role in IT but have not lost my interest in space whether near-Earth or far.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Like many others who are dedicated SETI unit-crunchers, I find it very difficult
to believe that we are alone in the universe and am proud to be involved with an
effort like SETI. It amazes me to see that users come from around the world,
across every imaginable border and culture. The search for extra-terrestrial
intelligence is not a search by the 'West', by 'developed countries', or by the
idle rich. The search is one by all mankind - much like the search for peace in
our time must be.

When extra-terrestrial intelligence is found, what will be the meaning of today's terrestrial borders? It won't have been found by and it won't impact just one culture or country. It will have impact all all citizens of the planet.

I congratulate all those who participate and thank the originators of the concept and the developers/maintainers of the systems we use.
