I'm a retired electrical engineer. A fellow computer user introduced me to the SETI@Home project. My hobby is centered around computers. I find the internet an exciting new frontier. I'm excited to help the SETI project meet its goals by contributing idle computer resources.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think that extraterrestrial life exists? Personally I would be quite surprised if it DIDN'T exist. Considering the vastness of the universe and the length of time it has existed, there is little probability that we would be the only intelligent life form within it.
Of course the great distances would make it quite difficult for us to communicate with each other. I can not say if that is a barrier we will ever overcome, but I believe we should make the attempt. This is why I participate in the SETI project.
