I do believe it must exist. Hopefully through the work of millions of SETI@HOME users like myself. I can't believe that there are any dangers from discovery of intelligent alien life elsewhere in the universe.
We already transmit thousands of beacons into space daily and have been doing so for well over a century.
It is a chance for me to participate in something that I haven't the knowledge or skills to accomplish on my own, and to be a part of something bigger than myself.
