Profile: HMC: Chris Marble

Personal background
I'm the Unix Systems Manager at Harvey Mudd College.
It's a small science and engineering school in the Los Angeles CA area.
I've been working here over 8 years taking care of mail servers and the like.
Outside of work I like reading Science Fiction, going to SF conventions,
playing Table Tennis and bicycling.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I joined the setiathome project in June 1999. Some students urged me to join up
and join the college's team. Long ago our goal was to beat Cal Tech's team
but we achieved that several years ago. I think we peaked around #12 in
colleges and Universities and #99 in teams overall around July 2001.
Since then we've lost ground rather than gained. The student that was the
most active at recruiting members for the team is graduating this weekend.

I think I joined the project both to make use of all the spare compute cycles
I'm responsible for and for the competitive aspect of it all.
